I first went to see Matthew approximately 2 years ago after I had injured my right shoulder during exercise. It was not a serious injury; however, it was still causing discomfort and was limiting my training several months after the initial insult. A friend of mine in New York had seen a Certified Rolfer®, so I decided to give it a try and made an appointment with Matthew. After the first visit, I noticed improvement in my shoulder. For the first few visits, Matthew did some focused work on the shoulder, but he also addressed other areas of my body. He had me focus on my posture and the ways that I was moving various parts of my body during everyday activities. I began to notice improvements, not only in my shoulder but in my overall mobility. Now, two years later, I see Matthew a couple of times a year and always leave the visit feeling better than when I come in. I have integrated some of the breathing techniques and stretches that he has taught me into my day to day life and pay more attention to the ways that I move my body during different activities. Overall, the work with Matthew has benefited my training, improved my flexibility and increased my awareness of my body.
